What is Apple Cider Vinegar “With the Mother?”

Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits

Organic Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is an incredible tool to use for both your health, and the health of your animals.Β It seems like everyday there is another story on the news about something that ACV has been found to treat or cure. Β Now, while I don’t buy into all of that, there are definitely benefits to adding it to your diet, and giving it to your animals.

Everything from a reduction in blood sugar, anti-inflammatory properties, weight-loss, acid reflux reduction, digestive issues, poison ivy, and so much more have been reported by people doing independent studies of Apple Cider Vinegar.

“The Mother”

However, I was always a bit confused when people would say, ‘make sure to get the one with the mother in it.’ Usually, they were referring to the brand Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar, raw and unfiltered.

Simply put, ‘the mother’ refers to the fact that the Apple Cider Vinegar is organic, raw, unfiltered, and un-distilled. True ACV will have been allowed to age in wooden barrels. When it is bottled, you can see the strings or web-like strands (amino acids) in the brown, cloudy liquid. This liquid is a very powerful anti-biotic, pro-biotic, and anti-septic. Its healing properties have been documented for thousands of years. The normal ACV you find in the store is actually dead. The process of distilling the vinegar kills all the beneficial bacteria.

Best Ways to Use Apple Cider Vinegar For Yourself:

A great way to add these benefits to your daily diet, is to make a sort of tea and drink that in the mornings. This has been said to greatly reduce cases of acid reflux and other digestive issues.

Apple Cider Vinegar/Honey Tea
1 Cup Hot Water
1 Tablespoon ACV (With the Mother)
1 Teaspoon Raw Honey

Apple Cider Vinegar/Honey Salad Dressing
1/2 Cup ACV (With the Mother)
1/2 Cup Olive Oil
2-3 Tablespoons Raw Honey

Best Ways to Use Apple Cider Vinegar For Poultry:

My experience with ACV is limited to poultry and rabbits. I add a tablespoon to each gallon waterer a few times a week for the poultry and maybe a teaspoon to my rabbit waterers. (However, I do not add the vinegar when it is really hot outside). It is believed that the addition of the ACV into poultry waterers helps to increase calcium absorption in birds. Also, increasing the PH level of the water, even slightly, will help keep harmful bacteria at a minimum.
