Kitchen Tip- Freezing Buttermilk

After the holidays, we always seem to have a few special ingredients left over. This quart was the smallest amount of buttermilk that I was able to find for a recipe that only called for 1 cup.
I hate pouring it out a couple weeks after purchasing it, so I tried freezing it, and it worked great! I found this neat ice cube tray with a snap lid at TJ Maxx, and I poured the remaining buttermilk into it. I tested the first ice cube tray section, and it held exactly 1 tablespoon of buttermilk. Yours may hold more than that, just test it first so you can know your measurements to mark on the bag.
It took about 4-5 hours for the milk to freeze solid. I then broke them out of the tray, and bagged them in a freezer bag. I had enough buttermilk left over to fill the tray twice.  This means, that I now have over 2 1/2 cups of buttermilk in the freezer ready to make my next recipe. Plus, using the cubes means I can take out as little or as much as I need for a recipe, without having to thaw it all out.
Make sure you measure first to save yourself some time later!
