Fall Decor on the Farm

As summer turns into fall, whether the temperature drops or not, things begin to change here. Fall decor on the farm is one of the major changes we can do first. We are often sweating, and it is still a hundred degrees outside, but starting to place the fall décor gives us hope that indeed, cooler temperatures are close, and the seasons are about to give us a break for a few months.

Mums

One of our first stops always seems to be for a few new mums. The farm is filled with mums. As these blooms begin to fade, we plant them somewhere. No waste is allowed, and yes they will come back. Next spring, you will begin to see them coming back, and we just keep them trimmed off till July 4th. Then we let them go. By fall, last years mums have returned in the gardens. This helps when you think about the cost of purchasing mums, at least if you plant them after they have graced a pot on your porch for several weeks, then you can enjoy them over and over for years to come.

Pumpkins

Pumpkins are so much fun around the farm. Can you tell which ones are real, and which ones aren’t? Pumpkins are expensive! While you can grow them in your garden, they take a massive amount of space. So, we usually purchase a few of the odd shapes and colors, but what we really love to do is find awesome deals after the season is over! Many of our pumpkins are very expensive faux pumpkins that we managed to find very cheap a week or two after Halloween. They become investment décor pieces for us. We use them each season instead of having to purchase a large amount of pumpkins. When the season ends we bring them in, clean them, and store for next year.  Of course, our aqua and pink pumpkins aren’t going to fool anyone into thinking they are real, but that isn’t the point. They just make us happy.

Candles

The warm light of candles will grace many of our displays as fall approaches. There is just something about the twinkle of the warm lights that says fall. We have purchased many candles over the years, and have found a few that we just love. Anything that saves time and energy is a plus, so the timer candles are a must. They turn themselves on and off daily, so we don’t have to worry about it, and they last forever. We use them indoors, and outdoors on covered porches.

Décor for your style

As you know, we embrace many different styles, and as you walk around the farm, and in the house, you will easily be able to see that. Whether you love the traditional bright vivid displays of fall color, or you tend to find comfort in the neutrals, or even pinks, then there is fall décor available for you.

There is no need to ever feel left out when a season approaches. Also, you can add touches around the house, or you can go all out! Whatever suits your personality, is your choice of style, and makes you happy. There is no right or wrong, don’t be scared to try something new.
Yes, pink is acceptable for fall décor in our world! Whether you want to find pink pumpkin décor somewhere like TJMAXX, or want to create your own pink décor with some basic spray paint, it is definitely possible now. Oh, and have you seen the pink mums! No spray paint needed there!
We hope you have enjoyed our quick little tour around the farm, and have realized that you can decorate for fall on a budget! We suggest adding one nice piece every year, and before you know it, you will have a collection you love.

Do you prefer simple touches or do you go over the top? Traditional colors or something different? Tell us how you ‘do fall’!
