A Blissful Morning with the Chickens

|
I would much rather be outdoors than inside.  On a pretty day, there is no where I would rather be than sitting in the swing, watching the flock. It was mid-morning on a beautiful, sunny winter day. I was at the coop doing some cleaning. The chickens were out, doing what they normally do. Suddenly, I realized how quiet it was. The guineas were even quiet! If you are a mom, you know that when the house gets quiet, you better go check on the kiddos.
I stepped away from the coop to check on things. I saw them, lying under a tree that we had taken down several months before. They are all there, (even our rooster, Chachi), minus one hen.  She was in one of the nesting boxes in the coop.
It was one of those moments. I stopped what I was doing and walked over to a nearby tree and just sat down. I wanted to take in this moment.  Some of them were sleeping, some were just resting.  I watched them as they yawned, preened, and napped. I don’t know how much time passed. I didn’t care. To me, this was bliss.
